2. The poisoned tree. (Nick’s story)

   I plopped on the bench in front of the orphanage and thought about the conversation with Grandpa Elli. He is the only person who can talk with the Eldest tree.

“The tree is dying. Somebody has poisoned her.” Grandpa Elli had said.

I blinked back tears.

The Eldest tree is the biggest and the oldest tree in Foodland. She doesn’t die, unless somebody poisons her. She makes magic foods and sends them to the normal world. She made Foodland. She was like a mother to me.

Tears rolled down my face.

I asked Grand El if it was the Black magicians.

His face darkened and he said “I’m afraid so. The poison is from a place very deep and dark.”

“Can’t you heal her? You healed her when Rachel accidently set her on fire!”

Grand El shook his head sadly. “The poison is too strong. She has only a little bit of power left. There is now only one magic food left. She mustered all her power to make it. The food is the ivy. The person who eats it becomes really powerful. You should do your best to find that person, Nick.”

My head ached.

How can I find that person? Me? I’m just an orphan! My mom and dad died in a car accident and I couldn’t stop it!

I stared down at my shadow and murmured “You have given me such a big thing to do, Grand El. How am I going to find that person among the millions of people in the world?”

“Hey, who do you have to find?” a soft voice said behind me.

I nearly jumped out of my skin.

“What? Who…….” I stammered as I looked behind me.

A girl with purple jewels and long black hair tied in two ponytails below her ears, smiled and sat down right next to me.

“El, Elizabeth Jewel?” I asked surprised.

Elizabeth let out a tingling laugh and slipped her hand in to mine, which made my face burn hot.

“So, who’s that person you were crying about? I don’t believe you have another girlfriend.” she said softly.

I could feel my face turn redder and redder. “You’re a daughter of a millionaire. You shouldn’t hang out with an orphan like me.”

Elizabeth smiled. “Nick, you’re so cute when you get embarrassed. It’s okay. I still like you. So, who’s that person?”

I was about to tell her but stopped because I felt my body say “Don’t tell her. She radiates danger!”

I hurriedly stood up and said “I have to go back to the orphanage. It is 12:00. I’ve got to get lunch.”

With that, I ran back to the orphanage before Elizabeth could stop me. 

Metafiction(Speech Contest)

At school we had a speech contest. I was curious about what Minsu will say, because he was quite crazy and said funny things during speeches. We started the speech contest. Surprisingly, Minsu sat in his seat not saying a word. At last, Sora, a girl who is a fantastic speaker, started her speech.

"Hello, I'm Sora Lee and I'd like to do a speech about success. Success is doing what you want to do. It should be quite challenging so you feel good when you finish that work.  As an example, I make a goal to get in first place in the school exam. I study really hard and get all 100 percent. I will feel happy and have pride in me. Even though I do not get 100 percent, I will be proud in the fact that I worked so hard and I tried my best. The fact that you tried your best would be important, not the result. The mistakes that you made during the process will at lost make you succeed. So, don't think 'Oh, that happened because of my mistakes. It's all my fault. I'm so stupid.' There are lots of chances. There are lots of opportunities. So don't give up. Thinking that you will not be able to succeed, just makes yourself have less confidence. On the other hand, if you think that you will succeed, you'll have more percentage to really succeed. So, we have to think that we can do it. We can say that to ourselves and also to others. Success will change our world, ourselves and change everything. If you succeed, everybody in the world would know you. For example, Steve Jobs made the Apple bigger to the world. If you try hard, then everything will be perfect and succeeded and everybody will be happy. No one gets sad or cry. However, success sometimes can make you tired. If you succeed, you should be a hard worker so......"

Suddenly, as if Minsu waited for this part, he jumped up from his seat and began to yell;

"We have to fight for freedom! Korea independance cheers! Back to the 1914s, there was a hero named 각시탈(Gacital). Anyone can be a hero. Even a normal kid can be a hero saving citizens from danger. Let's work hard and be a hero. We can't be a hero like spiderman but lets try!"

Everyone cheered and Sora glared at Minsu. Well, at least he ended up the speech quite well....... No, he had something more to say.......

"Let's play spiderman!!  Yeah!!"

Minsu and the other boys ran, jumped and leaped over girls pretending to be a spiderman. Aw, man!

Chain Writing

Success is doing what you want to do. It should be quite challenging so you feel good when you finish that work. As an example, I make a goal to get in first place in the school exam. I study really hard and get all 100 percent. I will feel happy and have pride in me. 

Even, I do not get 100 percent I will be proud in the fact that I worked so hard, and I tried my best. The fact that your tried your best would be important, not the result. The mistakes that you made during the process, will at  last make you success. 

So don't think 'Oh, that happened since I made some mistake. It's all my fault. I can not do that from next time.' There are lots of chance. There are lots of opportunities. So, don't give up. 

Thinking that you will not be able to success just makes yourself have less confidence. On the other hand, if you think that you will success, you'll have more percentage of really success. So, we have to think that we can do it, we can make it to ourselves and also to others. 

Success will change our world ourselves and change everything. If you success everybody would know you. For example, Steve Jobs, he had made the Apple bigger to the world. If you try hard then everything will be succeeded and everybody will be happy. No one sad or crying. But success sometimes could be tired. If you success you could be so hard worker so...

Food Land teaser(Chapter 1)

1. The new girl. (Rachel’s story)

   I sat at my desk and wondered who the new classmate would be. Our teacher, Mrs. Bun said that there would be a new girl coming to New York from LA. I was excited to see the new girl because the seat next to me was free. I was so excited that I didn’t realize I was making hot peppers pop out of the ground.

OK, backup. I’m one of the Foodland people. We call ourselves ‘Foody’. We become a Foody when we eat a magical food and get power from it. I ate a magical pepper and got the power of hot pepper. And, yeah, I was hoping a Foody would come in to our class.

At last, the girl came in. She was pretty, with long brown hair and green eyes. Foodies can feel power from each other, but I couldn’t feel anything from her.     

Mrs. Bun said “This is Ivy Emerald. She will be studying in our class.” Then she turned to me and said “Rachel, will you show Ivy around the school in break time please? Ivy, your seat is just next to Rachel.”

The girl, Ivy, quietly sat down next to me and began to take out her books. I studied her carefully during class, and figured that she was just an ordinary, calm and quiet girl. At break time, I walked over to Ivy and said “Hey, um, nice to meet you. I’m Rachel Sunset. Um, do you want a tour?”

Ivy shrugged and answered “Well, I’d appreciate it if you’re okay with it.”

We walked around the school and I showed her the garden, the classrooms, and the play ground. The play ground was filled with garbage that the kids threw away as they played. Ivy frowned at the garbage with disgust and pulled out a little plastic bag from her pocket. She also pulled out a little pair of tongs and used it to pick up trash and put it in the bag.

A Foody’s job is to protect nature, so I was moved by Ivy’s action. She looked like she had done it for a long time. I wanted to be a good friend with Ivy because she looked like a good nature protector. I wondered how to get close to Ivy, and got an idea.

I leaned over Ivy, who was still picking up trash and said “Hey, ‘you have time after school? If you do, how about coming to our house?”

Ivy smiled. She said “Sure I do! I’d love to go to your house!”

Ivy Emerald: Hello, I’m Ivy Emerald. I have a special taste, so I love eating ivy! I’m usually calm, but I react quickly when I’m surprised. I also hate snakes. I am, I mean I was, a regular 12 year old girl with long brown hair and green eyes. But one day, I ate magical glowing ivy and got the power of ivy. I can make ivy grow and strangle someone. My best friend, Rachel invited me to her house and showed me a magic doorway in her bedroom. She said it was a passage to Foodland. She also said that she and I was a Foody, one of the Foodland people. In Foodland, I met a boy named Nick, who also has the power of ivy. He helped me make a magical doorway in my bedroom, and let me share his house in Foodland. He also gave me a pair of clips which looks like leaves, and a green silk dress with a golden belt. I learned about the Golden apple and the Silver apple, so I decided to go on an adventure with my friends.

Rachel Sunset: Hi! I’m Rachel Sunset. I’m a Foody with the power of red pepper. I go to the same school, Sunrise school, with Ivy. I’m a best friend of hers. I’m quite short tempered, so I can’t resist the urge to use my power on a person I hate. So I make little power balls and throw it in their mouths. The balls would explode and they will taste the hottest pepper in the world! I’m 12 year old and I love to tie my fiery red heir in a ponytail. I usually wear my read gym suit with a golden pepper embroidered on it. I’m cheerful and talkative, but when I’m nervous, I babble everything I know, and that is not really good when we meet an enemy. I showed Ivy the way to go to Foodland. I like Nick, because he is calm and always cheerful even though he lost his parents.

Nick Greenivy: Hello, I’m Nick Greenivy. I’m an orphan because my parents died in a car accident. Because of that, I’m always compassionate to children whose parents are sick or dead. I live in an orphanage and I always stay in the very corner of the room. It doesn’t matter because I like to spend time going in and out from Foodland. I’m 11 year old and have green hair and blue eyes. I have the power of ivy. I wear a hair band decorated with a green leaf and green silky shirt and pants. I like Rachel because she doesn’t seem to feel poor about me just because I lost my parents. She is also cheerful and makes me happy.

Mitchell Lee: Hi, I’m Mitchell Lee. I have the the power of sssssnakesssss. I love pranksssss but I’m sssssometimessss kind. I usually ssssssneak around and make people ssssssurprisssssed. I’m from Korea, and my real Korean name issss Min-Cheoll. I have black hair and a long forked ssssnake’ssss tongue, which makesssss me make the sssss sssssound. I also have sssslit eyes and black sssshirt and jeansssss. I like Ivy becaussssse ssssshe is pretty and kind. It’ssss ssssuch a ssssshame that ssssshe doessssn’t like sssssnakesssss. I have a cute pet ssssnake called Bon-bon. He is ssssso cute.

Blinky Materialism: Hello, I’m Blinky Materialism. I serve my father, the devil. He is sealed in a boulder of rocks, so I can only hear his words. I want to pull him out, so I listen to my father’s order and achieve it. I pay my servants money or gold and they do whatever it takes to get more. I like Ivy a bit, because she is pretty and kind. I have long silky black hair and wear black robes. I can make metal sprout out of the ground and change shapes.

Elizabeth Jewel: Hi! I’m Elizabeth Jewel. Everyone says that I’m really cute and pretty, but Blinky doesn’t seem to care about me. That’s so sad because I like Blinky. I’m much powerful than everybody thinks because I can control jewels. I feel kind of bad for the people I hurt, but I do it because Blinky said that he would date with me when I work for his father. I hate the girl named Ivy, because Blinky seems to be interested in her. I think I’m much prettier than that puny Ivy girl. I have my hair tied in two ponytails and have jewels on my hair. I wear my sparkly silver dress with jewel hanging on it.

Food Land teaser(Setting)

Title: Food land-The Golden and Silver Apple

Setting: These days, in America + Food land

Food land: Magical land. Hidden from non food land people. Buildings are made from food. Ex: Pumpkin houses, bread houses. They have endangered wild animals. People who ate magic animal’s tongue can communicate with animals. No cars. Use bikes made of food. All of the food land people cooperate. Houses attached to room. Magic door.

Time stops in the real land when Foodies go to Foodland.

Food land people (good): Vegetarian, but sometimes eat meat. Stop earth being polluted. They get magical powers from magical foods.

Black magic people (bad): Make earth be polluted. Try to persuade Food land kids to be in their team. 

 ***The Silver apple heals everything and the Golden apple gives extra power to the owner. ***

Kony 2012

The most famous viral video in the whole world; Kony 2012. As you see in the video, Kony 2012 is a campaign to catch Kony. Kony is the leader of the LRA and he abducts kids and use them in his own will. So, this person, who made this video, made a campaign called "Kony 2012". However, I think that the campaign is not really good.

Firstly, the campaign is running in a wrong way. It should be an anti-Kony campaign, but all the symbols and names looks like we are on Kony's side. The idea of doing a campaign for the Uganda children is very good, but just with the symbols and names, people can think that we should help Kony. I thought like that the first time I heard about him. I thought 'Kony 2012 with Kony's picture? It must be saving or helping a person called Kony.' I bet lots of people will think like that if they don't watch the video and just see the symbol of the campaign. It is a good thing to tell lots of people about Kony, but I think that it should be also mentioned that Kony is a bad person. I think that making the name as 'Catch Kony 2012' would be a much better than just 'Kony 2012'.

Secondly, the campaign is known too well. The video for the campaign is seen by lots of people, so it's not a sneaky attack. They are showing Kony widely that they are trying to catch and punish him. Kony is not stupid, right? He will just run away, regain power and do the same thing over and over again. To catch Kony, we should not be shown and take him by surprized. It should be a secret small plan.

Thirdly, the video was almost about the person's life. The person who made the video, had the story about his son and his life in the whole first part. I think that it starts too much of the story of his life. I think that it should have a little bit more about the campaign.

Even though it had some wrong parts, I think that the video is very good. It makes us sad, happy, angry and excited. I think that the name of the campaign should be changed and Kony should be caught and be punished about what they did to childrens.

About a book that I would like to write

I like to read fantasy books so if I can, I would like to write a story about magic and things. I once wanted to write about a common girl eating a magic Ivy and get the power of it and setting out for an adventure. It was so similar with the 'Percy Jackson' series, so I gave up with that. However, I had the plot and characters all planned so I'd like to introduce the story.

The book title is 'Food Land'. The main character, Ivy Emerald is an ordinary girl with green eyes and green hair. Ivy likes to eat ivy and once ate a magic ivy. The magic ivy gave the power of ivy to Ivy. Ivy's best friend, Rachel Sunset, who has the power of hot pepper, helps Ivy to go to Food Land. Food Land is a magical world for people who ate magical food. In Food Land, Ivy meets Nick Greenivy and Mitchell Lee. Meanwhile, the Grandma tree, which is a magical tree which makes magical food, is poisoned. So the four children sets out for an adventure to find the Golden Apple which cures every thing. They fight with each other and fights devils who tries to block them but they finally succeeds.

This is the story that I'm drawing. Well the story that I was drawing when I was at home.

Actually, I'm more interested in a story (that I made) about a sister and a brother having magical powers. In fact, I was already drawing a comic of that story. However, I don't have the plots planned at all and the names are all Korean, so I couldn't write about it. Maybe I'll just past a picture of the comic that I'm drawing. I do like making up stories and writing or drawing it!
